Surry Hills Children’s Court

This redevelopment involved the transformation of the 105 year old heritage building into a modern court for young people. This meant retaining parts of the existing heritage portions of the facade, whilst completely transforming the internals to a functioning and modern courthouse.

Evolution Windows were able to supply and install all aspects of the glazing requirements. This included our Aluminium systems to all internal partitioning and separation walls. Our Timber Joinery to replicate cords & weights Double Hung windows, large curved front entry doorways and to refurbish and repair existing timber windows.

Our biggest challenge was to design, manufacture and install 135 square metres of glass roof to an internal atrium. This proved challenging with each piece of glass having to be craned into position and then structurally glazed and sealed.

The end result is a fantastic transformation from 1912 Heritage Architecture to modern day Window and Doors systems and architectural concepts.

As this was a Government project with a heritage consultant on site full time, there was a strict enforcement of cataloguing and recycling of the existing Timber window and door joinery.

Evolution Windows were required to remove and label all window components, these were then stripped, repaired and re-fitted to fully functioning windows.

The thermal requirements for the glass roof and atrium wall framing required a U-Value of 2.9 and SHGC of 0.41. Low E Double Glazing and the glass roof spec utilising a Euro Grey high performance glass was used to achieve this result.
