Freshwater Residence

This amazing property sits at the end of Ocean View Road, Freshwater, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. The design brief from the client was simple, yet challenging. They wanted to “view as much ocean as possible,” and “get maximum energy efficiency”.

To meet the first requirement, Evolution Windows used a three metre high opening and a wall of operable timber glass sliding doors - running from the front to the rear of the property, to maximise the view. Bi-fold and sliding doors were used in the rear cabana, overlooking the wet edge pool, complete with a 50mm toughened glass viewing panel to enhance the surroundings.

To achieve maximum energy efficiency a variety of techniques were used. Remote control clerestory awning windows on the top floor provide excellent cross ventilation and catch breezes on a hot summer’s day. The windows and doors are double glazed with
a combination of 8.38mm laminated glass and 6mm Energy Tech toughened.

This also fitted in with the acoustic need to control the noise of busy weekend beach-goers. The use of quality seals was critical due to beachfront gale force winds. A range of Schlegel products were used in the design producing terrific results - complementing the requirements of both thermal and acoustic comfort.

The end result is a stunning beachside family residence that will be enjoyed for years to come.
